The fire hole door was fabricated mainly from steel gauge plate machined to the final dimensions. Some of the more interesting features were as follows:
The fire hole door was fabricated mainly from steel gauge plate machined to the final dimensions. Some of the more interesting features were as follows:
- The actual boiler door aperture was larger than the drawings, so the clearance dimensions from the drawings were used to create a door that fitted the actual hole. However, it practice this should allow better access to the fire when the model is steamed.
- The hinge bushes were not positioned central to the door, thus the hinge plate had to be mounted slightly hire up.
- The curved latch restraint was very difficult to machine, mainly as there are not any straight edges to clamp in the vice!
